2009 BCA Scholarship Program
Congratulations to BCA's two 2009 scholarship recipients! Both of these men received the Al Shackleford/Dan Martin Graduate Scholarship for $500:
Timothy McKeown is seeking to earn his Ph.D. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, with the ultimate goal of teaching communications at a Christian university or seminary. He has a wealth of experience in both communications and church work. He has served on the staff of several secular newspapers and has worked as a freelance writer for Baptist Press and other Christian organizations. Additionally, he has served in ministerial roles in Texas Baptist churches. He said, "I believe that the church fathers would utilize the fullest extent of mass media and every form of communication available and that we should do no other."
Chris Mills is pursuing a master of divinity at the Birmingham extension of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. A 2007 graduate of Troy University in Alabama, Chris is currently the "webminister" for Alabama Baptist Convention State Board of Missions; he also "assists in the larger communications picture (at the State Board of Missions) by assisting with graphic design and audiovisual needs." Chris also has been a member of BCA since 2007 and spent four summers serving as an international summer missionary. He served in Venezuela (2004), South Africa (2005), and East Asia (2006, 2007). He stated that he plans to continue to be active vocationally in ministry/missions communications. "Seminary is an affirmation of God's calling on my life," he said.
