2011 BCA Scholarship Program
Congratulations to Amanda Parrish (center in photo to the right), a senior communications student at Union University, who received the $1,000 student scholarship from Baptist Communicators Association for the 2011-12 academic year.
A veteran and respected BCA member, JimVeneman, serves as an instructor to Parrish at Union University. He had this to say about this year's scholarship recipient:
"In my classes she has shown that it is never enough for her to simply meet a deadline. She always approaches an assignment as a creative challenge, and sincerely enjoys attempting to produce work that will show her audiences a fresh look, a new way of seeing the everyday.
"Her ability to work with a wide range of people and circumstances helps her gain amazingly fast rapport with those around her. Even in the sometimes-difficult situations that all communicators find themselves, she performs beautifully, always returning with marvelous material and new friends.
"Last summer Amanda was on a small team of students that travelled to New Mexico to produce stories for the Baptist New Mexican. Her responsibilities included both writing and photography. Amanda's commitment to excellence was exhibited in every story she produced. Her ability to work within a team was exactly what was needed. The finished stories and photographs were tremendous.
"There is absolutely no doubt that someday soon Amanda will be a valued member of a communications team. She will be looked upon as a go-to person when the needs are greatest, and will be the guide and leader needed by so many."
Thank you from Amanda Parrish, Scholarship Recipient
I hope all is going well for you as fall and the Christmas season approaches. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for honoring me with the Baptist Communicator's Association scholarship this year. It has been of great assistance to me this semester at Union and I am continuing to learn much in the communications department. This year has been full of new opportunities such as interning with two photographers in Atlanta and working with a non-profit organization. As my senior year is now here, I am also blessed to have the privilege of working with a few other organizations in their communications and media departments. I am excited and looking forward to seeing what the future holds in the next year.
Thank you again for all that you have done.
