The Executive Editor of The Baptist Message is responsible to Louisiana Baptists, through the Trustees of The Baptist Message, for the production and circulation of The Baptist Message for the purpose of disseminating Baptist and religious news; to publicize the programs of Louisiana Baptists and to express ideas, opinions and policies through editorial comment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop/maintain positive relationships (external and internal)
  • Ensure production and delivery of newspaper in a timely manner.
  • Implement strategic goals and action plans for the Baptist Message. (Budget, employees, training, evaluations)
  • Research, prepare and proof news stories and photographs (including travel, if necessary) in a timely manner
  • Interact with Louisiana Baptists departments as well as outside people and institutions (Baptist, colleges, directors of missions, etc.) to develop news stories and to promote good will for the newspaper and Louisiana Baptists
  • Act as Director of Public Affairs, representing Louisiana Baptists:
  • Inform Louisiana Baptists on matters of public moral and social concern
  • Assist Louisiana Baptists in engaging local, state and national issues of public moral and social concern
  • Engage the Louisiana legislative process as it pertains to public moral and social concerns
  • Develop relationships with like-minded public policy groups and individuals
  • Act as liaison with the LBC Moral and Social Concerns Committee and Resolutions Committee
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, LBC, act as spokesman for Louisiana Baptists on matters of social and moral concern

    With regard to the functions of the Director of Public Affairs, the Editor/DPA will report to the Executive Director of the LBC. Quarterly reports will be filed with the Executive Director summarizing the work performed. An annual accounting of expenditures on public affairs endeavors will be given to the Executive Director. Pertinent information regarding the public affairs work will be provided to the Baptist Message Trustees at regular board meetings.
